About Us

The Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence at The University of York is a world leading research and education centre which aims to promote the development and implementation of green and sustainable chemistry and related technologies in terms of the design, manufacture and use of environmentally benign chemical products and processes that prevent pollution and reduce environmental and human health risks.

The Centre brings together research, education and promotional work relevant to green and sustainable chemistry and related technological issues. Our activities cover collaborative translational research, pure research, the development of educational and promotional materials, international networking as well as technology transfer between industry and academia aimed at the development and commercialisation of environmentally friendly chemical processes and products.

The Centre has a longstanding reputation for collaborative work with international organisations, external research groups and with Industry through its dedicated Green Chemistry Centre for Industry, which provides a research service to industrial customers. It also houses and administers Europe's largest Green Chemistry Network and is a core partner in a number of other important national and international networks and major collaborations It is also involved in the preparation of educational materials for a broad range of audiences including schools, universities, the general public and industry.
