This is the sixth time since 2000 the title has won the award. Campus rival Nouse was runner-up.

It was also a successful night for former Vision editor Patrick Greenfield who won reporter of the year while James Tyas, former film editor at Nouse, was runner-up in the critic of the year award.

More than 700 hopefuls entered for 2014 awards which were judged by leading industry figures including the Guardian News and Media editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger, Financial Times deputy editor John Thornhill and Cate Sevilla, managing editor of BuzzFeed UK.

The awards were presented at a ceremony at the Guardian headquarters in London hosted by broadcaster Rick Edwards.
