BBC Look North Special broadcast from University of York

A BBC Look North special focusing on devolution for Yorkshire was filmed from the Department of Theatre, Film and Television’s studios at the University of York on 4 November.

The programme, More Power for Yorkshire? A BBC Look North Special, was broadcast on BBC1 in Yorkshire & Lincolnshire and on the BBC1 HD channel on 5 November.

Examining whether Yorkshire needs more power, panellists discussed the benefits and drawbacks of an English Parliament or Yorkshire Assembly, and whether powerful cities should decide where locally-raised taxes are spent.

Part of week-long coverage on the BBC asking ‘what next?’ for devolution following the Scottish referendum, the programme also included short films looking at differing opinions and a debate.


Patrick Titley, Lecturer in Television Production in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television, said: "We’re delighted to have shared our broadcast-quality facilities and technical staff with the BBC for this production. It's been an important opportunity for our students to work with a BBC crew and production team, where they have put theory into practice and delivered a thoroughly professional service."
