Research

My research topic concerns medical tourism in Thailand. I am exploring the identities of people from the UK and the US travelling abroad for medical treatment in order to see if they perceive themselves as patients, consumers or citizens deriving from their healthcare system at home. I am also investigating what bring medical tourists to travel across the globe for healthcare service receipt in Thailand; what are the major keys influencing their choices about healthcare provider and destination; and to what extent medical tourism is actually related to tourism.

Title of Research Topic: An exploratory study of consumer choice and motivation of medical tourism in Thailand: a case study of healthcare consumers visiting a private hospital in Pattaya
