Lesley has been Director of CRD since 2006.
In addition to her role as Centre Director, Lesley maintains her research interests in the conduct of systematic reviews and in methodological development through active involvement in CRD research projects.
She is currently involved in two projects developing Individual Participant Data (IPD) systematic review and meta-analysis methodology. The first as PI of a three year MRC funded project evaluating the utility of various approaches to IPD synthesis, the second as PhD supervisor of an IPD meta-analysis to identify the patterns of risk in febrile neutropenia. In addition to addressing an important clinical issue, this work is developing IPD methodology in the emerging area of risk prediction syntheses. Lesley is also a PhD supervisor for a project developing methods of information retrieval for finding evidence for reviews of adverse events. She also has an active role in the ongoing developmental work with the Advisory Group for National Specialised Services (AGNSS) piloting the processes that will underpin their decision making.
Recently, Lesley has also overseen and been actively involved in the development of an international prospective register of systematic reviews which CRD launched in February 2011. She is also in the process of establishing a new journal.
Lesley has been involved in evidence synthesis in healthcare since the late 1980's, previously running the MRC Clinical Trials Unit meta-analysis research programme. Together with colleagues in Cambridge and Oxford, she helped establish the methodology and framework for individual patient data (IPD) reviews.
She was a founding member of the Cochrane Collaboration, co-convenes the Cochrane Collaboration IPD Meta-analysis Methods Group and is a member of the Collaboration Methods Board and the Handbook Editorial Advisory Panel. She is also a member of the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Clinical Practice Guidelines and Research methods and Ethics and the WHO Advisory Group on Clinical Trial Registration and Reporting. She is a member of the NIHR Reviews Infrastructure Advisory Group and an elected member of the Society for Research Synthesis Methods.Current research projects
