First Year Student Profile

Faye Wade, Year 1
MChem: Chemistry

"I was attracted to study Chemistry at the University of York because of its strong reputation and friendly atmosphere. The Chemistry department in particular, is a well structured community, where students interact via different groups and activities, such as tutorials, workshops and labroratory sessions. The range of activities allows students to build strong friendships, and also to build links with members of staff who are always able to offer help in the different fields of the subject.

"There is a strong emphasis on academic study, however the University and the department ensure that the students get the most out of their experience by providing opportunities for extra curricular activities and experience in the field of Chemistry. This includes organising industrial sponsorships. I won a scholarship with Croda, a Hull based chemical company, which offers me invaluable work experience helping to strengthen the quality of my degree."
