An MChem Student with a Year in York

Franziska Bell, Year 4
MChem: Chemistry

As a result of the outstanding support and the high quality education, which also includes invaluable transferable skills, I was able to win the Salter’s Graduate Chemistry Prize for the department this year and was offered a place at Berkeley UC, USA, for my graduate studies.

"The University of York was my first choice university, and after studying four years here I am convinced that it is the perfect place to carry out an undergraduate Chemistry degree. I especially appreciated the welcoming atmosphere and the outstanding academic support, which ranges from individual discussions, tutorials in groups of four to workshops involving the whole year. I was particularly impressed by the lectures, which are very well structured and full of action, suspense, humour and demonstrations.

" The department is also excellent in terms of its research and provides the opportunity to gain experience in this field from the beginning of ones studies. For example, in my first year I was able to join a research group over the summer and also the 3rd and 4th year projects have helped me to gain valuable insight into state-of-the-art research, involving the design my own experiments and writing publications.
