Social Policy and Administration at York placed 39th in the world according to the latest release of the QS World University Rankings by subject, 2024.

This week, York’s School for Business and Society reconfirmed its place among the world’s most highly regarded departments for the subject of Social Policy and Administration. This subject was ranked 39th in the world by QS World University Rankings by subject, 2024, retaining its top-50 position globally.

Published annually, QS World University Rankings assess over 50 subjects, at over 1,400 universities, on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact.

York's overall position

In total, three subjects at the University of York were ranked in the top 50 globally: 

  • Archaeology ( 26th= globally)
  • English Language and Literature (34th globally)
  • Social Policy and Administration (39th globally)

Four more were ranked in the top 100 in the world: 

  • Education (60th= globally)
  • History ( top 100 globally)
  • Linguistics (81st= globally)
  • Performing Arts (top 100 globally)

In the broad subject of Arts and Humanities we were ranked 79th= globally.
