Geoarchaeology
ARC00048M
Aims
- to introduce a range of methods that are key to the practice of geoarchaeology
- to consider why these are important to the broader discipline of landscape archaeology
- to use a series of basic laboratory methods that can help us characterise the important properties of soils and sediments
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module you should:
- understand why geoarchaeology has an important and useful contribution to make to landscape archaeology
- be able to execute a series of simple laboratory tests on different soil/sediment samples
- be able to interpret the results of the laboratory tests
- know what other tests could be carried out on these samples
- be critically aware of the strengths and weaknesses of different geoarchaeological methods
