Aims

  • To explore some of the key aspects of project management, and to consider the need for effective techniques and solutions for a conservation project
  • To explore some of the key funding issues affecting the conservation of historic buildings;
  • to consider costing and its implications;
  • to discuss sources of funding and the means to a successful grant application;
  • to consider imaginative financial solutions;
  • to discuss the concept of disaster planning;
  • to consider the application of risk assessment methods to conservation projects.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this module students should have:
  • an imaginative and flexible approach to project management;
  • understood the principles and considered the practice of tight budgetary and operation controls of projects;
  • a clear understanding of funding opportunities available in the UK;
  • a good understanding of the potential risk assessment methodologies;
  • an understanding of the necessity for an inter-disciplinary approach.
