Car Share Scheme

 

The University Car Share scheme has over 390 members (December 2011) and is linked into a city-wide scheme that can be found at http://www.carshareyork.com. This is an internet-based service that matches together drivers and passengers for both daily and one-off trips. Alternatively it is possible to join the car sharing network by calling 08700 111199.

Why car share?

There are numerous benefits to car sharing for journeys in general and in particular to the University:

  • Save money (typically around £1000 per year!) by sharing your travel costs
  • Find a space with ease...priority parking is available in designated car share spaces (currently at Vanbrugh College)
  • Congestion and pollution levels in and around York are reduced
  • Meet new people
  • Save wear and tear on your car as you only use it half the time
  • Sit back, relax, and let your 'chauffeur' take the wheel and bring you to campus. Return the favour the following day!
  • Cheaper University of York car parking permit

Safety

All details are stored securely on the car share database and only your intended travel information can be accessed online. You are responsible for your own safety when using http://www.carshareyork.com and you can establish preferences for your journey to ensure that you are comfortable with you chosen partner.
