Responsibilities

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Learning and Students:

  • is responsible for ensuring that our students have an intellectually stimulating, relevant and well supported teaching and learning experience
  • leads on developing and implementing the University's strategy and policy on teaching and learning
  • leads on developing and expanding programmes of learning
  • leads on developing online teaching.

About Tracy Lightfoot

Tracy leads on our strategic aim to Provide an education that empowers.

She became the PVC for Teaching, Learning and Students in October 2020.

She played a key role in developing the University Strategy 2030, which positions her portfolio in the context of dynamic, flexible education for students from all backgrounds, the development and expansion of programmes of learning with a strong focus on public benefit, diversification, employability, internationalism and widening participation, access and progression. 

Prior to this she held a number of senior leadership roles at York, including Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Learning and Students, where she led on the development of postgraduate education and the adoption of online learning through an innovative collaboration with Higher Education Partners.

Her multidisciplinary academic background includes over 15 years conducting research into the pathogenesis of cancer in adults and children, coupled with the design and implementation of cross-disciplinary undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

Her focus has been targeted at the development of innovative novel provision, and towards creating a thriving, supportive and dynamic community to enable all to succeed.

Research

After training in pharmacology, Tracy worked in cancer biology and epidemiology in the Department of Biology.

Her areas of research interest are cancer epidemiology, particularly haematological malignancy and childhood cancer; the health of children with Down syndrome; and the role of genetics in the pathogenesis of haematological malignancies.
