The people who made a difference

In the 50 years since the University of York first opened its doors, and in the years of planning before that, thousands of people have helped to make the University of York great.

They have made it great through teaching generations of students, by developing original research, by designing or building our campus, by helping others, planting trees, cooking meals, volunteering in the community, giving money, managing laboratories, running student societies and much much more.

Throughout our 50th anniversary year we asked the wider York community of staff, retired staff, friends, alumni and students to tell us who they think has made a significant contribution to the University.

This has resulted in a diverse range of nominees who have contributed in many different ways to the overall success of the University.

We are now contacting everyone who has been nominated to ask for their permission to include them in a major online and campus-based exhibition which will be launched in June 2014 as part of the York Festival of Ideas and the 2014 Alumni Reunion weekend.

Thank you to everyone who made a nomination.
