Celebrate the life of a loved one at York
An in-memory tribute is a meaningful way to celebrate the life and values of someone close to you.
We understand that many of our alumni, staff and friends will hold a deep and meaningful connection to the University, and York itself.
We offer a number of ways for you to celebrate and remember the life of a loved one.
What does an in-memory gift look like?
To discuss any of these options further, our Legacy and In-Memory Manager, Maresa Bailey would be delighted to have a conversation with you: Maresa.bailey@york.ac.uk
"Together we are growing a wood on campus in honour of our daughter Caitlin, who loved nature."
In a beautiful part of Campus East, a growing wood is being planted in memory of Caitlin, a student who made a profound impact during her time at York. This living tribute will act as a place of reflection and remembrance for generations to come.
Through the beauty of nature, the Cole family are honouring the memory of their daughter Caitlin, a biology student who passed away in 2019. Lovingly named ‘Caitlin’s Wood’, the trees are now spreading roots opposite her former student bedroom on Campus East.

A father’s tribute to his son
Steven Beckwith’s life was forever changed by the loss of his son Roudhan, a talented student at York, in 2023. In the face of grief, Steven has channeled his energy into an extraordinary series of fundraising efforts in Roudhan’s memory, supporting opportunities for less advantaged students in scientific research - something Roudhan himself was passionate about.
