Hiring vehicles

If you are required to hire a vehicle for University of York business, please refer to the car hire instructions on the University's business travel page:

Please note that authorised drivers hiring a vehicle on University business are not covered by the University of York motor insurance policy. 

Drivers are required to take out fully comprehensive motor insurance with the hire company - this is included in the cost of hire with Enterprise, the University’s preferred supplier. 

Long-term hire

If your department will be hiring a vehicle long-term (over three months), please contact insurance-enquiries@york.ac.uk.

Hiring minibuses

You should not hire a minibus. Driving a vehicle with fewer than nine passenger seats is permitted with a full driving licence, but subject to certain exclusions (eg the driver cannot be under 21 years). Please see the government website for details:
