Footpath reminder: Heslington Church area
Posted on Monday 10 November 2025
Please remember to use designated footpaths when walking between Campus East and Campus West, and avoid cutting through the Heslington Church car park.
Recently, there have been reports of near misses involving pedestrians and vehicles when people have been walking through the car park and across the grass towards Heslington Hall and Derwent College.
For your safety, and to help motorists access and exit the car park safely - please keep to the footpaths and avoid crossing the car park area.
As the darker evenings draw in, it’s also a good time to stay alert around car parks and road crossings both on campus and in the city. Simple things like taking care when stepping out between parked cars, keeping headphones low, and being visible to drivers can make a real difference.
If you’re cycling, make sure you stay visible on the roads by wearing safety gear such as a high-visibility vest, bike lights, and slap wrap reflectors. Don’t have any yet? Come along to our Light Up, Be Seen event, hosted by the Travel and Transport team, on Thursday 27 November, 4 to 6pm, at the Field Lane crossroads, and pick up your free gear (whilst stocks last).
Thank you for helping to keep our community safe and considerate for everyone.
