Safety Alert (Sciences) - Disposal of Laboratory Sharps

Recently there have been a number of incidents of sharps being disposed of incorrectly.
As we welcome new scientists into our labs across campus, please ensure that they have the proper awareness & understanding of hazardous waste disposal arrangements as part of their safety induction. In particular, that disposable sharps (e.g. syringe needles & scalpel blades) should only be discarded into dedicated yellow sharps boxes such as this:
Laboratory users and line management should be extra vigilant over the coming weeks for any sharps that have been wrongly discarded to general & offensive waste bins, as they can introduce cut & puncture hazards to waste handling operatives.
