Professor Hjellbrekke is an expert on social mobility and the study of elites, and highly experienced in advanced quantitative data analysis. As well as conducting his own research, he will be lead teacher this September on a short course run by York's Sociology Department, focusing on multiple correspondence analysis.
No stranger to international collaboration, Professor Hjellbrekke has been Visiting Associate Professor to UC Berkeley (2008), Visiting Fulbright Scholar, NY University (2003) and Visiting Researcher, EHESS, Paris (2002).
This sabbatical has been made possible through funding from the Research Mobility Programme granted by the University of Bergen. As part of the 16-member Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), both York and Bergen provide funding to their staff and postgraduate students allowing them to visit WUN members overseas in order to develop research collaborations.
More details on York's Research Mobility Programme can be found on the International Relations Office website.
