Xenophanes Scholarship
For September 2026 entry, the Department of Philosophy is offering the Xenophanes Scholarship, which will be awarded as a contribution of £5,000 towards living costs.

Eligibility
Open to students from the UK (home) only.
To be considered for the scholarship, you must:
- be holding an offer of a full- or part-time place on the taught MA in Philosophy
- be a permanent resident in the UK, and be classified as Home (UK) in university admissions procedures.

How we allocate
The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit with priority given to students who fulfil widening participation criteria.
The successful candidate will be notified by 30 June 2026.
In accepting the scholarship, the successful candidate will be required to do the following:
- attend a scholars’ welcome event on campus during the autumn term
- write an end-of-year report and message of thanks to the donor in the summer term
The successful candidate will also be asked to volunteer to support the Office of Philanthropic Partnerships and Alumni (OPPA) with other fundraising and stewardship activities throughout the year, but this will not be compulsory
Terms and conditions
The awarding of the scholarship will be subject to candidates meeting any outstanding conditions of their offer of a place on either the taught MA in Philosophy or the Graduate Diploma in Philosophy, and registration on either course.
