Assessment themes

The GANE Advisory Board is currently establishing the scope of the Assessment including thematic areas. 

A preliminary non-exhaustive list of themes that could be included is:

  • understandings of economic welfare and progress
  • the ecological foundations of the economy
  • (social) values, choice and human behaviour
  • biodiversity and ecosystem services, including regulation of emergent infectious diseases
  • supply chain sustainability and resilience
  • energy, carbon and material flows and societal metabolism
  • integration of planetary boundaries into economic institutions
  • the money system, finance and banking
  • re-purposing business and corporate law and governance
  • employment, income, welfare and taxation
  • equality, equity (intra- and intergenerational) and justice, including addressing the unequal impacts of the pandemic
  • power and rent seeking
  • workers’ rights and just transition
  • ecological economic indicators
  • accounting and appraisal
  • economic education.
