Decolonizing Science: Paradigms, Practices, and Approaches
Event details
Natural sciences are often presented as universal and value-neutral, and yet their histories, institutions, and practices have been shaped by colonial systems of knowledge that continue to influence scientific inquiry, teaching, and academic structures today. In this webinar, jointly organized by the EDI Research Centre and the Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre (IGDC) at the University of York, we explore how decolonial principles, methods and practices are being applied and integrated into research and teaching in the sciences.
Bringing together an interdisciplinary panel of experts, this webinar will unpack the possibilities and tensions involved in developing more critically reflexive, inclusive, and globally situated approaches to scientific research and teaching.
Speakers:
- Professor Avtar Matharu (Chemistry, University of York)
- Dr Pegine Walrad (Biology, University of York)
- Dr Richard Harris (Psychology, University of Leeds)
