Huge congratulations to both Melissa Gustin and Katherine Hinzman who were awarded the prize by the Pre-Raphaelite Society. Melissa's essay "Pomegranates in Autumn: Ruminations on Rossetti's Final Proserpine," is a thematic exploration of Proserpine, the seasons, and death, while Katherine's essay "'It is clear I am a heretic': Edward Burne-Jones, Theology and Artistic 'Heresy'" gives a fascinating insight into Burne-Jones’ theological views and the ways these fed into his artistic practice . Both pieces will be published in the Spring 2018 issue of the Review of the Pre-Raphaelite Society.
Their achievement is all the more impressive as the competition organisers stated that the quality of submissions this year was particularly high!
