The Department is delighted to announce that Professor Helen Hills has been awarded a Leverhulme Research Fellowship for 2017-18, which she will combine with a period in Autumn Term 2017 as Senior Visiting Scholar at Villa I Tatti (Harvard Center for Renaissance Studies in Italy).

The University of York, in partnership with Tate, is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified applicant for a full-time collaborative PhD studentship focused on landscape painters’ studios and private galleries in which images of rural Britain were made, displayed and sold during the period c.1780–1850. The studentship commences on 1 October 2017. Principal Supervisor: Dr Richard Johns (York). Second supervisor: Dr Martin Myrone (Tate).

AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Partnership: ‘Settings and Subjects in Early Netherlandish Painting’

The Department of History of Art at the University of York and the National Gallery invite applications for a three-year full-time Collaborative Doctoral Award studentship, fully funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), to investigate the interrelationships between figural subjects and settings in the making and meaning of early Netherlandish paintings. The studentship commences on 1 October 2017 and will be jointly supervised by Dr Jeanne Nuechterlein (University of York) and Dr Susan Foister (National Gallery).
