Helen Hills to Deliver Keynote Address at Australian Conference

Posted on 28 January 2014

Professor Hills will present her paper Miraculous Affects: Inventing Corpses in Baroque Italy, at a conference hosted by the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions (Europe 1100-1800) next month.

The conference, Emotion, Ritual and Power in Europe: 1200 to the Present, will take place in Adelaide from February 10th to 12th.

"This paper examines the interplay between affect and religion through materiality in order to bring into relation material and spiritual approaches that have too often excluded each other.  Thus in investigating the interplay between emotion and religion in baroque Italy and their material implication, I focus on the miracle and affect and the divergent ways in which they come to matter in art and architecture."
