Invisible Strategies: Lubaina Himid and exhibition making

Friday 10 February 2017, 5.00PM

Speaker(s): Stephanie Straine (Curator, Modern Art Oxford)

This talk concerns Modern Art Oxford’s current exhibition, Lubaina Himid: Invisible Strategies, and Himid's artistic and exhibition-making practice of more than thirty years. 2017 marks a major reappraisal and renewed interest in her body of work. The talk will consider the contemporary socio-political relevancies of Lubaina Himid’s work at this moment in time, and look to the wider network of Modern Art Oxford’s exhibition collaboration with Spike Island in Bristol and Nottingham Contemporary, through the conduit of Himid’s work, as a model for new ways of thinking and working in these uncertain times for public galleries.

Location: The Treehouse, Berwick Saul Building
