Cantor Modern Art Lecture

Speaker(s): Dr Stephen Deuchar, Director of Tate Britain

During the decade of his Directorship, Dr Deuchar has overseen a remarkable programme of displays at Tate Britain. These have including a wide range of innovative thematic shows, the controversial Turner Prize, and internationally celebrated exhibitions on such artists as Hans Holbein, William Hogarth, Thomas Gainsborough, Bridget Riley and Francis Bacon. He has also pioneered closer links between the gallery and academic spheres. In his lecture, to be entitled 'Stories of Art', Dr Deuchar will draw upon his rich experience of the modern art world, and consider the role of the public art gallery in contemporary culture.
