Education

We are planning to welcome undergraduate and postgraduate students for the 2026/27 academic year.

The University of York Mumbai will initially offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in:

Computer science with AI and cyber security
Business
Economics
Creative industries

Programmes in these emerging fields - AI, cybersecurity and the creative industries - will be designed with global industry input, to boost job readiness in high-demand sectors and open career pathways for Indian learners.

Research

A distinctive feature of University of York Mumbai will be its strong emphasis on research from the outset.

This commitment to research will underpin teaching and the student experience, but will also contribute significantly to India’s growing demand and drive for research development and innovation in areas such as food security, environmental change and future technologies.

Quality and excellence

We're one of only four UK universities to be rated both Gold for teaching and top ten for research in the latest national assessment exercises.

All programmes will be delivered in line with York’s academic standards, with students graduating with a University of York degree, enabling York to bring its quality academic model directly to one of the fastest-growing education markets in the world.

The plans are to initially open our doors in an existing building in a business quarter of Mumbai, and then develop a full campus complex over the coming years.

Provost: Professor Lindsay Oades

Professor Oades is a globally respected expert in wellbeing education, wellbeing psychology, and leadership and systems transformation.

Chief Academic Services Officer: Amrita Sadarangani

Formerly Senior Director and Head of Global Research Alliances at Ashoka University, Amrita has been instrumental in supporting Ashoka’s transformation into a globally-engaged research university.

Chief Operating Officer: Dr Akshay Malhorta

Akshay brings with him over fifteen years of leadership experience in higher education, spanning renowned institutions in India and the United States.

Artist impressions

We are pleased to unveil the first impressions of the University of York Mumbai campus. Based in the Powai Business District, the conceptual designs have been developed by Via Design India LLP, a New Delhi-based architecture and interior design practice led by principal partner Ram Joshi.
