The Company of Merchant Adventurers is delighted to welcome Archie Norman —Chair of Marks & Spencer and longstanding business leader who also spent 8 years in public life as a leading member of the UK Conversative Party and Shadow Cabinet — to the Merchants’ Hall on Thursday 13th November at 6.30pm.
Archie will be in conversation with Past Governor of the Company, Martin Vander Weyer — who is also business editor of the Spectator —about his life story, devoting his career to turning around and restoring the fortunes of businesses and his passionate belief in great people. The conversation will be followed by an audience Q& A.
Archie Norman was appointed Chairman of M&S in September 2017. Archie has a breadth of retail experience with an extensive track record in business change and value creation. He was instrumental in transforming a number of major British businesses including Kingfisher, Asda and Energis. He has also served as Chairman of ITV, Hobbycraft and Lazard UK and was the Lead Director at the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy from 2016-2020. He was the first and only FTSE 100 Chairman to be elected a Member of Parliament, where he served for eight years.
His current external roles include: Chairman of Signal AI, Chairman of M Group, Senior Independent Director at Bridgepoint Group plc, Adviser to Coles Group and Non-Executive Chairman of the Global Counsel.
