For the second year in a row, the prize received its highest ever number of entries. Dr Alexandrova's Joyce, Multilingualism and the Ethics of Reading and Dr Zeldenrust's Mėlusine Romance in Medieval Europe stood out to the judges, who commended Boriana's 'commanding and deeply researched work ... challenging us to rethink the relationship between multilingualism, nation and the idea of the polyglot'. The judges praise Lydia's work, which 'provides new understandings of print culture across Western Europe, and will make a significant contribution to the way we understand transnational reception in the period, and the role of printed translations in particular'.

Dr Hannah Roche's book The Outside Thing: Modernist Lesbian Romance was shortlisted for the prize in 2021.
