Two new grants for Dr Claire Chambers

Posted on 11 September 2019

Dr Claire Chambers, Senior Lecturer in Global Literature, is Co-Investigator on two exciting new projects, exploring female empowerment through writing and culinary memory in India.

Claire's two collaborative projects, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Global Challenges Research Fund, address questions of women's literacy and local food heritage.

'Forgotten Food: Culinary Memory, Local Heritage and Lost Agricultural Varieties' in India' brings food historians, anthropologists, sociologists and literary scholars together with heritage practitioners, authors, and plant scientists to address challenges linked to food sustainability in India. Claire will commission a new anthology of creative writing on South Asian food to capture memories of now-lost foodstuffs and practices.

Her second project, in partnership with Nukhbah Langah and Rukhsana Zia (Lahore) and Radha Kapuria (Sheffield) uses historical research linked to women’s life writing to improve female literacy and empowerment in Pakistan and India.
