Thinking in Film...about Paris 1

Tuesday 27 January 2015, 6.15PM

Alphaville (Godard 1965)

FBI agent Lemmy Caution arrives in Alphaville on a mission to assassinate Professor von Braun, the architect of a state without poetry whose people have been purged of emotion and are ruled by computers.

Thinking in Film teams up with the Year 2 Lang/Lit module Post-War Culture, and the Film/Lit MA module Cold War Culture: Literature, Film, Theory in the Department of English and Related Literature.   We present a series of films and an open discussion that will provide an opportunity to think about French politics in the 50s and 60s, and about the connections they might encourage us to make between events then and now.
