Would the Real Modernism Please Stand Up?

Tuesday 6 November 2012, 6.30PM

Speaker(s): Finn Fordham (Royal Holloway)

Finn Fordham is one of Britain's leading scholars of modernism. His Lots of Fun at Finnegans Wake (Oxford, 2007) was praised as one of the most important books to appear on Finnegans Wake in the last two decades, while 2010's I do I undo I redo: The Textual Genesis of Modernist Selves offers a virtuosic application of genetic textual techniques to Hopkins, Yeats, Conrad, Forster, Joyce, and Woolf.

In this lecture, Dr. Fordham will address the vexed question of how literary Modernism relates or does not relate to the cultural phenomenon which, in each of the major European languages apart from English, usurped its name: the modernist movement within the Catholic Church.

This lecture is open to staff, students and the general public.  A drinks reception will follow in the BSB foyer.

Location: Bowland Auditorium, Berrick Saul Building
