York Technology Assessment Group

The NIHR Technology Assessment Reviews (TAR) programme enables rapid commissioning of Health Technology Assessments (HTAs) to respond to the urgent needs of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

The York Technology Assessment Group provides NICE with high-quality, independent research suited to decision-making to inform the NICE technology appraisal programme, NICE highly specialised technologies programme, the NICE HealthTech programme, and other NHS bodies. Our work directly supports NICE committees and ensures that national guidance and decisions about reimbursement are underpinned by rigorous and independent assessments of clinical effectiveness, safety and value for money, to improve outcomes for people using the NHS and other public health and social care services.

Our multidisciplinary team brings together specialists in systematic review, statistics, health economics, decision modelling, information retrieval and epidemiology. The TAR programme at York is held jointly by CRD and the Centre for Health Economics (CHE), and is led by Prof. Sofia Dias (Director) and Prof. Claire Rothery (Deputy Director).
