Arrivals 2020

Starting university can be an immensely exciting but also challenging experience.  As such, we want your move to Goodricke College to go as smoothly as possible so please take the time to read the following information. 

Please note that some students from overseas may arrive on the 25 September, however the main arrivals day is Saturday 26 September; it is on this day that there is the additional support of STYCS to help students move in. 

I'm a new undergraduate student from the UK when should I arrive?

  • If you're from the UK you should arrive between 9 am and 4 pm  on Saturday 26 September 2020
  • Accommodation Services will send you a letter advising the start date of your accommodation in Goodricke.

I'm a new international undergraduate student from overseas when should I arrive?

  • If you're travelling from can arrive either Friday 25 or Saturday 26 September 2020
  • Accommodation Services will send you a letter advising the start date of your accommodation in Goodricke
  • However: International students progressing from a University of York Pre-Sessional course onto a new undergraduate course should arrive on Saturday 26 September.

What should I do when I arrive on 25 or 28 September?

Go to Getting Here to get directions to Goodricke College.

  • If you are arriving by car there are two car parks near to Goodricke College, however we advise that you leave your luggage in the car until you have collected your key card and your welcome information from the Goodricke Nucleus building.
  • If you are arriving by bus from the train station or the airport you will be dropped at the bus stop which is just two minutes walk from to the college. 
  • If you arrive on the 26 September there will be Second and Third Year Contacts (STYCs) on hand to guide you, easily identifable by their green Goodricke t-shirts, please ask them for help and directions when you arrive.

Collecting your key card for your room

  • On the 25 and/or 26 September you should collect your keycard from The Nucleus, Goodricke College. 
    • If you arrive after 4pm on the above dates you should collect your keycard from Reception in the Ron Cooke Hub which is open 24/7. 
  • Please remember to bring some form of photo ID to collect your key card, i.e. passport or driving license.
  • You will also be given a welcome pack, which will contain some essential information that you will need to read, and some "goodies" that will be useful during your time at Goodricke!.
  • Once you've collected your key card you're ready to move in! 

Moving in to your room

  • If you're arriving on the 26 September a STYC will show you the location of your flat, room and kitchen.
  • Once you have found your room, and you are happy with where everything, is you can move in.  
  • If you arrived by car, you will be directed from the car park to the side of the college where you can unload your belongings.
  • In order to ease traffic congestion, we ask that you unload all of your luggage at this point. 
  • There will be lots of student helpers around to get you moved in so if you need help, please ask. As soon as you've unloaded your luggage please return your car to the car park.

Information for parents and guardians

On Saturday 26 September there will be a number of welcome talks for parents and guardians at the Ron Cooke Hub Lecture Theatre. This is an opportunity for Parents/Guardians to ask questions about living in College. You can pre-book your space on one of the welcome talks here

On Saturday 26 we will provide light refreshments in the Nucleus, however snacks and lunch are available from the Ron Cooke Hub or the Piazza near Goodricke College. 

 

I'm a returning undergraduate student when should I arrive?

  • You can arrive from Saturday 12 September 2020 onwards
  • Please go to the Ron Cooke Hub Reception to collect your key card.   If you wish arrive after these dates please avoid arriving on the 25 or 26 September.

I'm a Postgraduate student when should I arrive?

  • You should arrive from Monday 21 September 2020 onwards.
  • Please go to the Ron Cooke Hub Reception to collect your key card.   If you wish arrive after these dates please avoid arriving on the 25 or 26 September.
