Vacation placements

To help our students further their practical skills, and to develop their research interests, the Department encourages Chemistry undergraduates to spend a period during the summer vacation undertaking a research project supervised by an academic member of staff. Students can apply for bursaries from external sources (e.g. Royal Society of Chemistry or Laidlaw Scholarship) and often there is Departmental funding available too.

Two of the Departmental placements are supported with the award of the Tony Semlyen Research Bursary in recognition of the considerable contribution made by Dr Tony Semlyen to teaching and research in the Department.
