For applicants who are based in the UK and whose application meets our selection criteria, we require you to visit the Department before considering you for an offer.
If you've visited us on an Open Day and applied to study at York, we'll invite you to a post-offer visit day, meaning you have another opportunity to visit us before making your decision.
If you've never visited us, but you've applied to study at York, we'll invite you to a pre-offer visit day. This allows you to see the department, teaching facilities and meet members of staff and students, and allows us to learn a bit more about you.
All of our applicants will be contacted about these events, but if you have any queries, please contact chem-ugrad@york.ac.uk
Personalisation was nice - seemed like each person had been researched so we weren't just treated generically
Chemistry applicant 2019
Visit days are not only aimed at finding out more about you, they are very much an opportunity for you to find out about us. During your visit you will:
We aim to make these days as informative, interesting and relaxing as possible, and of course, we are very happy for you to bring one or two parents or guests along too if you wish to do so.
We run a separate programme for guests so that they too can experience what the University of York Department of Chemistry has to offer.
Extremely impressed with the thought and care that has gone into planning this eventChemistry applicant 2019
Typically our visit programme starts at 1.20pm, and we invite all applicants and guests to a free lunch from 12.30pm. Take a look at our Visit Day Timetable 2022/23 (PDF , 71kb) for students and guests.
We always aim to finish our programme by 4.00pm so that those applicants who have travelled long distances are able to return home the same day.
We hope your visit day will be relaxed and informal and we do not have a dress code so please wear whatever feels most comfortable.
