The Department of Chemistry has extensive links with institutions throughout the world. Each year 20 – 25 visiting students spend periods in the Department many through European Exchange programmes.
The Department aims to be as flexible as possible in meeting your academic needs as a visiting student. The easiest option is to choose from the list of modules available to York Chemistry students in our module catalogue. However, you should remember that there may be timetabling constraints if you choose modules from different years of our programmes or if you are choosing a mixture of modules from more than one department. Bear in mind that 1 ECTS credit is equivalent to 2 York credits in working out what is an appropriate workload each semester. When you arrive at York, your module choices will then be finalised at our Welcome Induction where you will receive one to one guidance on what will be best for you, this is not always possible when making choices remotely in advance.
Please note that the practical elements that form part of the Core modules would not be undertaken by visiting students. We can also offer research projects designed for visiting students. These can be carried out at any time during the year, not just during the teaching semesters.
We encourage all of our non native English speakers to take a look at the Writing and Language Skills Centre courses which are available to take along side your other modules.
Please contact the visiting student team at chem-exchanges@york.ac.uk if you need any more information.
