The Chemistry Analytical Facility (CAF) within the Department of Chemistry at York held its first showcase event on 22nd July funded by the ITSS Technology Specialists Network.

Delegates from academic institutions across the UK and members of local industry were invited behind the scenes to explore the cutting-edge technology and techniques that are available in the recently formed Chemistry Analytical Facility.

Attendees enjoyed guided tours of state-of-the-art facilities including NMR and our Micro-Analysis service with the opportunity to speak to our technical specialists. Highlights of the day included glass-blowing demonstrations from Technical Specialist Abigail Mortimer, the opportunity to examine a mammoth’s tooth in the North East Amino Acid Racemisation Facility and inspiring talks from Helen Sneddon (Director of the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence) on industrial and laboratory sustainability.

We thank our exhibitors: GPE, Metrohm, Rigaku, JEOL, York Science Park, Merck, Huber and our very own Chemistry Workshops!

With thanks also to our technical team at York: Vicky Annis, Richard Gammons, Hannah Briers, Richard Douthwaite, Scott Hicks, Niall Donaldson, Danny Shaw, Chris Horbaczewskyj, Sam Greeves, Kirsty Penkman, Jackie Mosely, Matthew Davy, Abigail Mortimer, Chris Rhodes.
