Print alternatives project wins platinum at the Green Impact Awards

Turning Pages, a project encouraging everyone at the University to reduce the amount they print, has been awarded platinum at the Green Impact Awards!

The Turning Pages team, made up of students and members of staff from IT Services and the Digital Inclusion Skills and Creativity (DISC) team, has managed to save 3.36 tonnes of carbon per year by:

🌿Reducing the number of printers across campus by re-organising printers into Print Hubs

🌿Encouraging and educating University students and staff to use alternative methods to printing

The Green Impact Awards is a programme designed to encourage organisations to think about how they can make environmentally sustainable changes, with platinum being the highest award possible to achieve.

The team created an online print alternatives resource, which explains the tools available for staff and students to use instead of printing, such as scanning to PDF and using annotation tools. For instances when people do still need to print, the resource also includes some helpful tips on avoiding printer wastage.

As more people continue to make use of these tools, these carbon savings are only set to continue. The impact of the project will also go beyond the University as the case study will be shared with other universities via the UCISA Sustainability group.

A huge congratulations to the Turning Pages team for achieving Platinum! Stay tuned over the coming weeks as we share more Green Impact spotlight stories.
