The Politics International Excellence Award

We are pleased to announce that three £1,000 International Excellence Awards, which recognise and reward academic excellence, will be available to incoming international students starting their undergraduate course in Autumn 2022.

Eligibility

Open to international fee-paying students.

In order to be eligible you must have an offer for a place on one of the following courses:

You must also:

  • make York your firm acceptance choice by Friday 29 July 2022, 23:59 BST.
  • be a newly-enrolled student starting your course in September 2021.

How to apply

Awards will be decided based on a short academic essay. Choose a current issue relevant to politics or international relations and explain why you think it is important to study it. It can be something of particular relevance to your home country, or international politics more broadly. (Maximum word count: 400 words.)

Please send your essay to poli-intexcellence@york.ac.uk by Friday 13th May 2022, 23:59 BST.

How we allocate

Essays will be evaluated on the basis of clarity of argument, analysis and critical thinking, and structure. We would also like to see some engagement with relevant literature, such as books or news articles. Please also provide a bibliography of any sources used – this will not count towards your 400-word limit.

Awards will be announced by Friday 3 June 2022.

This scholarship may be combined with other University of York scholarships.

Please note that the scholarship will be payable at the beginning of your second term of study, in Spring Term 2023, as a departmental tuition fee discount.
