ESRC award for Hall

Congratulations to Dr Alex Hall who is part of a successful network bid to the ESRC for a seminar series entitled 'Everyday Practice and Resistance in Immigration Detention', along with Mary Bosworth (Oxford), Imogen Tyler (Lancaster) and Dominique Moran (Birmingham). The seminar series is led by Nick Gill (Exeter) and will involve five events during 2012-2014, with international speakers from US, Canada and Australia. These events aim to provide a means of exchanging knowledge around burgeoning contemporary detention practices in a national and international context. One of the events will take place in the Politics Department at York.

**NEW - the Department secures over £50,000 towards funding new postgraduate scholarships and fee waivers**

The Department of Politics is delighted to announce that it has secured five fee waivers for its  current MA programmes and one full PhD Scholarship (a Home/EU fee waiver and a stipend of £13,500 for three years).  The awards will be awarded on the basis of an open competition between all applicants to the relevant programme or programmes (there is no need to submit a separate application).  In addition, the Post-war Reconstruction Unit are offering  a number of 50% fee waiver scholarships (Overseas and Home/EU) and travel bursaries each worth £1000 for the MA in Post-war Recovery Studies, 2012/13.
