Student Placements in Industry

The BA Management degree, BSc Management degree and BSc Accounting, Business Finance and Management degree can all be studied with a placement year in industry, ensuring our students leave us as highly employable graduates, with an understanding of the relevance of academic learning within an organisational context.

The placement provides you with an opportunity to gain management-related experience.  Whilst on placement you will develop considerably, both personally and professionally.

Employers place significant emphasis on employability in their graduate recruitment and, as a placement student, you will be perceived as having gained many of the essential skills for success at work.  These include communication and interpersonal skills, and the acquisition of attributes such as team-working and a strong awareness of workplace culture.

You will be supported in finding a placement and given guidance on writing applications and CV’s, dealing with interviews and assessment centres.  You will also be extensively supported by the Schools specialist staff during the placement year. 

Placements will normally last for 12 months and will deepen your management competencies.  All of the placements we make available to you will be paid, on average salaries nationally sit between £14,000-£18,000. Some students that will be starting their placements in London this year have secured salaries of £23,500, demonstrating not only the value of our students but the types of organisations that recruit York Management School students.
