Theses

What York theses are available and where?

The Library holds all the University's PhD and MPhil theses.

Masters theses for the current 6 years are deposited in the JB Morrell Library by the Centre for Women's Studies and the Departments of Archaeology, Education, History, History of Art, Management, and Social Policy and Social Work.

The current 10 year Centre for Medieval Studies MA theses are in King's Manor Library and you should ask to see them there.

How do I consult a thesis in the JB Morrell Library?

Other theses are kept in a secure store and you need to book them in advance on the Library Catalogue.

Theses may not be removed from the Library.

If you are not a member of the University of York but are a member of another University you can ask your home library to obtain a copy of a York thesis for you.

If you are an independent researcher and want to consult a York thesis you can ring 01904 323873 or contact us by email and ask Library staff to make a booking for you. When you come to the Library to use the thesis you will be asked to show proof of your identity, including your address.
