Vancouver referencing style

As used in: Biochemistry (as well as Harvard), Biology (as well as Harvard), Chemistry, HYMS (as well as Harvard), Mathematics

This is known as a numeric referencing style, as numbers are used in-text to indicate where a source is cited. These relate to a numerical list of references with full bibliographic details, rather than an alphabetical list. The Vancouver Style has a number of different interpretations, therefore, it is extremely important to check and follow your Department's specific regulations.

Departmental exceptions
The Hull York Medical School produces its own referencing guide for HYMS students, which should be adhered to. The information below provides supplementary information. Note particularly that the rules for secondary referencing here are different to those in the HYMS guide.
