Languages for All

Open up your world with LFA

Languages for All offers a range of foreign language courses to help you communicate with people from other countries and gain an insight into other cultures.

If you wish to:

  • start a new language
  • improve your fluency in conversation
  • brush up rusty language skills
  • complete an assessed course covering speaking, listening, reading and writing
  • gain 'survival skills' before going on a trip abroad
  • prepare for studying or working abroad
  • take a language course as a degree module under a departmental elective scheme
  • develop skills to help you do business in a foreign language
  • learn to read and translate foreign literature

we have a course for you!

Courses are available at a variety of levels from beginners to degree standard. We offer short (4-week), medium (8-week) and long (19-week) courses. Most courses are assessed/examined and lead to the award of a certificate, although some of our shorter courses are non-assessed.

Classes are held at a variety of times (lunchtimes, daytimes, evenings) and are open to students in all departments, staff and members of the public. Teaching takes place both on Heslington West campus and on the new Heslington East campus.
