| The Robert Charles (Bob) Hunt Bursary |
The bursary is in the sum of £2000 and will be awarded to a student who will be registered for a research degree in the Institute of Railway Studies & Transport History (IRS&TH) during the 2012-13 academic session.
The bursary is restricted to students carrying out research into aspects of the history of either the Great Western Railway or the Midland Railway. If no suitable recipient is identified, secondary priority will be given to students working on research into the successor companies of the Great Western Railway and the Midland Railway; i.e. the Western Region of British Rail(ways), the London, Midland & Scottish Railway and the London Midland Region of BR.
The bursary must be used at the student's discretion to enable the student’s research but may cover travel and subsistence expenses as well as part-payment of the University’s tuition fees.
The bursary will be awarded by the Management Committee of the IRS&TH on the recommendation of the Institute's Head. Applicants will be assessed according to the academic quality of the proposed research, its relevance to the required subject matter, and any additional educational benefits that the applicant will derive from the bursary.
Applications should be made electronically in writing to Dr Colin Divall, the Head of the Institute <colin.divall@york.ac.uk> stating in no more than 500 words how the bursary, if awarded, would be used. Applications must be received by Friday 29 June 2012.
