Our research excellence is recognised

Posted on 18 December 2014

The results of the research excellence framework (REF), an exercise that assesses the quality of academic research, have just been released.

Our REF Success

Research is judged according to its quality, as well as the impact it has had outside of academia. The vibrancy of the research environment is also rated.

The Times Higher Education report shows our department as ranking 5th of 84 departments in Art & Design: History, Practice, and Theory.

We are 3rd among History of Art departments, and 1st for History of Art research impact.

We are also joint 1st among all 84 departments for research environment, reflecting the strength of our community at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

This is a strong set of results, which demonstrates the Department’s research excellence and how it makes a real difference – not only to our research-led teaching, but also nationally and internationally.
