Funding for 2012/13 for full time undergraduate students undertaking the BSc (Hons) Nursing and BA (Hons) Midwifery has now been announced by HM Government. Students on these programmes will be able to apply for the NHS Bursary package which includes the following:
For further information and for latest updates please visit: www.nhsbsa.nus.uk/students
Bursary payments are normally paid one week after the course starts directly into your bank account. It is important that you open a bank account before you start the course and ensure you have sufficient funds to cover expenses for your first month, such as rent, travel and food. If you are a mature student you should be aware that participation in the course will create a three year break in National Insurance contributions. You may wish to pay these voluntarily to ensure continuation of contribution.
In order to be eligible for an NHS Bursary, applicants must meet personal eligibility requirements as laid down by the NHS Student Bursaries Unit. This includes residency rules which restrict the eligibility of overseas applicants for the bursary. Further information is available from the NHS Student Bursaries Unit.
We notify the NHS Student Bursaries Unit when someone is offered a bursaried place and students are issued with a bursary application pack directly from the NHS Student Bursaries Unit prior to the start of the course.
If you are in receipt of an NHS Bursary you may be eligible to claim costs under one of two travel schemes available within the department. This is subject to eligibility and students will be guided on this at the start of their programme.
