This group carries out research on a wide variety of topics in theoretical and applied macroeconomics, including economic growth, international macroeconomics, inter-temporal macro models, non-linear macroeconomic dynamics, labour economics, political economy and stochastic dynamic models.
The group's research also carries important links with finance, where several ESRC-funded projects are under way, employing theoretical and empirical analysis to interrogate the relationships between financial markets and the macro economy, and their influence on risk premia and asset pricing. Corporate finance is another important area of activity, particularly concerning the impact of agency relations within firms on financial and investment decisions, and hence on the valuation of financial instruments within firms.
Cluster members include the Chair of the Work, Pensions & Labour Economics Group; the advisor of the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee; a member of the Chancellor of the Exchequer's Macroeconomics Seminar Group; and a council member of the Royal Economic Society. It includes a research affiliate of the CEPR, research fellows of Centre for Economic Studies ifo (Munich) and the Institute for Study of Labour (Bonn), research affiliates at the Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis and a recipient of a Marie-Currie Grant.
