Graduate Study
The School of Politics, Economics and Philosophy at the University of York offers an innovative programme of post-graduate study with an international development dimension. Students can either take an MA or apply for one of the Research Degree programmes.
The MA Programmes
The MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) Programme:
- offers students an integrated, multi-disciplinary PPE education at a university with an international reputation in Humanities and Social Science research
- prepares students for a broad range of careers, including careers in international organisations, finance and research
- is suitable for a variety of students including those completing an undergraduate degree and mid-career professionals
- is unique in giving students a choice between a balanced education and tailor-made courses with a specialised focus
- offers modules from Economics, Philosophy and Politics departments each of which scored 24/24 for teaching in subject review and 5 in the Research Assessment Exercise.
More specialised pathways through the programme allow students to focus on particular areas by choosing one of the following courses:
- MA in PPE: Economics and Development
- MA in PPE: Economics and Philosophy
- MA in PPE: Economics and Politics
- MA in PPE: Politics and Development
- MA in PPE: Political Economy
- MA in PPE: Philosophy and Public Affairs
The programme is available as a one year, full-time course of study.

Entry requirements: an upper second degree or equivalent; and (where appropriate) 6.5 in the IELTS test for English language proficiency
